My friends and I are always looking for new places to eat and recently I came across a Facebook ad for a restaurant with an interesting concept. The establishment is called Cakes & Crafts and they focus on a variety of delectable baked goods along with a rotating selection of craft beers. And as an added bonus the two owners from California also offer a menu of burgers that pay homage to the smash burgers of Los Angeles, and more specifically the iconic burger chain In N Out.
I wanted to try a little bit of everything and luckily I was with my friend who was able to help out. We ordered the homage burger, which is made in the style of In N Out's double double burger, and also the bacon cheeseburger. Each came with an order of fries and so we went with the animal style fries, smothered in special sauce and grilled onions, and the garlic fries. But that wasn't enough for us as we also got the chicken strips served with a sweet barbeque sauce. I'll let the picture speak for itself:
The burgers were made to perfection with that proper crust that any smash burger should have. The sauce that came with the homage burger came pretty close to that of the In N Out franchise and the flavor on my bacon cheeseburger was perfectly flavored with a square piece of savory bacon that covered the entire beef patty. Speaking of, the quality of their ingredients shine as the beef is moist and flavorful with that perfect balance of meat to fat (the owner told me they use a 77%-23% for that extra flavor). The chicken strips came in a huge portion of 4 large pieces but it was that sweet barbeque sauce that was the real star. Each item came with a huge portion of french fries and they offer three different varieties of regular, garlic and animal style. Anyone visiting absolutely must try the animal style as they perfectly recreate that California taste with their sauce that smothers the fries.
My friend was able to somehow down 4 beers along with the meal as they offer an impressive selection of locally crafted beers. I was told that the different beers and ales are rotated out often to give customers maximum selection each week. I also tried the red velvet/hot chocolate cookie which were fluffy, rich and sweet in every good way a cookie should be. The staff at Cakes & Crafts are exceptionally friendly and really knowledgeable about their menu which they are obviously very passionate about. This is a new establishment and they are still developing their full menu, but the restaurant is plenty ready now to fill any savory or sweet craving customers may have.
Cambodian Food Scene
Cambodia is surprisingly filled with many great restaurants, from inexpensive to those closer to Western prices. These are just a collection of my favorite places to eat throughout the country.
