City: Phnom Penh (Daun Penh)
Cuisine: English Pub
Rating: 4.5 out of 5
Seating: Indoor and outdoor
Conveniently located in the Daun Penh area on street 174, the Pub is one of my favorite hangouts in all of Phnom Penh. The main reason for this is of course the food as they have a great menu full of eclectic items from traditional English fare to dishes of the Asian variety. I have eaten breakfast at the Pub more than anywhere else as their Large Breakfast is full of everything that is good about getting up early in the morning and getting something delicious to eat. It includes proper English sausages along with backside thick cut bacon, which I'm told I know nothing about because I'm a savage American who only like thin cut bacon. They have great lunch items as well as their burgers are one of my favorites in town. It is a true pub style burger with a thick juicy patty that is barely contained in the bun that houses it. And you won't want to miss their traditional Sunday Roast as they have the best value meal in town. A half stuffed chicken or pork with all the fixings sells for only $7 and that comes with a free beer or soda. And unusual feature of the restaurant is that at 10:00 PM on most nights, the kitchen converts into a Japanese restaurant that serves up some of the best ramen in town.
The Pub also has a fully stocked bar with great specials during happy hour twice daily, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and 11:00 PM to 1:00 AM nightly. Draft beers are only $1 during these times and cocktails can run as low as $1.50. And the Pub is a great place to hang out as they have indoor seating with air conditioning, outdoor seating, strong WiFi and many tables and a bar counter. Anyone who frequents the Pub will encounter some of the most interesting people in town, those that have lived here for decades and can tell you stories of just about anything and everything that has happened in this country over the past twenty years. Open at 10:00 AM daily, the Pub closes nightly at 3:00 AM except on Sundays during which they close at 10:00 PM. So if you are looking for some great value food or a fun place to drink, be sure to check out the Pub.
Cambodian Food Scene
Cambodia is surprisingly filled with many great restaurants, from inexpensive to those closer to Western prices. These are just a collection of my favorite places to eat throughout the country.
