It can be a difficult endeavor to find a really good steak in Cambodia. In fact to find any good value beef product can be hard. That is why when you find a restaurant that serves a proper steak it should be noted and discussed. Pacow is one such place and I have to say that to this point they serve the best steak I have had in the Kingdom of Wonder. The steak in question is a 400g bone-in ribeye from Australia that was cooked to a perfect medium rare and charred on the outside to give it that great crust and flavor. At approximately $27 it presents great value for the amount of flavor and taste it delivers.
There are many great steaks on the menu that I plan on sampling during future visits, many that my friends have already had and rave about. From their $16 sirloin to their $80 tomahawk, Pacow offers a wide variety of cuts and flavors for everyone's palette.
Pacow is great for lunch as well as I went back a few days after my first visit to try their Aussie bacon cheeseburger. The patty is cooked in the style of a smash burger, flattened and cooked with a great crust on the outside. Served with a fried egg and a thick piece of bacon, they offer one of the best burgers I have tried in town.
Pacow also offers a wide variety of side items such as their house made bread which comes with a delicious tomato jam that is both savory and sweet at the same time to present the most interesting flavor profile. I also highly recommend that onion rings, breaded with quinoa and fried to a golden brown, served with a garlic aioli that is one of the best house sauces I have enjoyed in Phnom Penh.
There are probably more expensive, perhaps even better, steakhouses in Phnom Penh. But Pacow presents thus far to this writer the best balance and combination of service, decor, taste and value. Be sure to stop in the next time you are craving for a proper steak.
Cambodian Food Scene
Cambodia is surprisingly filled with many great restaurants, from inexpensive to those closer to Western prices. These are just a collection of my favorite places to eat throughout the country.
